Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

This chocolate chip cookie recipe is near and dear to my heart. Over the last 6 or 7 years it has become my go to for all of our family gatherings, pot lucks, holidays and they're requested several times a month at our own house.

They're the perfect mix of chocolate chip and cookie, slightly crisp on the outside and soft & chewy on the inside. The ingredients and recipe couldn't be easier, and I have a feeling this will become your favorite go-to classic chocolate chip cookie recipe.

6Tbs butter (softened)

1/4 cup white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1tsp vanilla

1 egg

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 of a bag (my bag is 11.5 oz) of chocolate chips


First start by putting your butter in a stand mixer and mix using a paddle attachment for a minute or two. Once it's nice and soft and creamy, add in both sugars and mix until they'll well incorporated. Next, add in the vanilla and egg, and mix until the egg is no longer visible.

At this point, I stop the mixer and add in all of the dry ingredients at once. I know this isn't the traditional way to add dry ingredients when baking, but hey, it's super easy and hasn't let me down yet, ha! So, add in all the dry ingredients, and then turn on the mixer slowly. Let it mix only until the dry ingredients are soaked up by the wet...try not to over mix. Once everything is combined, add in your chocolate chips and mix for just a few seconds more. That's it for the dough!

I use a heaping tablespoon to help portion out the cookies so they all end up about the same size, and I line 12 up at a time on a cookie sheet. I bake mine for 10 minutes at 350 and no matter what oven we've used, they come out perfect every time! Sometimes they don't look, quiiiiite done, but pull them out anyway and transfer them to a cooling rack they'll continue cooking through in the middle just a bit! 

This recipe makes somewhere around 22 cookies...depending on how big you make them and how much of the dough you eat ;)
